Saturday Inside

Today I stayed inside all day...partly because I had stuff to do and also because it was stormy outside. It rained and SNOWED all day. It was only slushy snow...so nothing that stuck in the valley. I just can't believe that it's snowing in September! It's crazy!!! So, I slept in really late because hello it's Saturday. Then all I did all day was work on a school project (while watching movies and Friends) and I cooked. I made tortellini for lunch and then I made a chocolate cake and enchilada pie for dinner. It was all delicious of course. I also took a picture of me doing my school work so you can see all the crap that I have (now that I have a table it's not as messy but I use to spread all my crap all over the floor and couch etc.). It takes a lot of time to do my school projects and a lot of junk. Paper, fodder, glue, tape, spray mount, foam core, fabric, finish samples, markers, etc. Obviously, I'm just in the middle of my project so not everything is out.

Not trying to get pity I just don't think I've ever shared what goes into my projects. It's a lot of work and gets totally old...especially because you do tons of work for a two minute presentation and a stupid grade that is totally unfairly given. It's frustrating because it's not like math where there is always a right answer...so the teacher totally holds your grade in you hands. Can you tell I am sick of school? Sorry for all the wining. I do enjoy interior design...it can be really fun but projects can get really old...they give you so many!

On a more positive note. I am really enjoying being "domestic" and cooking more often. I try to cook as often as I can. We haven't been out to eat since my B'day...trying to save money and be healthier. (minus the chocolate cake)
here is my beautiful enchilada pie and my chocolate cake...with home made frosting.
I'm smiling in the picture but inside I'm totally sick of drawing!

NEW job!!!

So, last week I was checking job listings on my schools employment page and I was looking to see if there were any Interior Design jobs posted and there WAS! There was a new one that had just been posted that day for a design assistant. I called them Friday evening and sent them my resume that night and had an interview the next morning. The interview went really well and they said that they had one other applicant but that they would get back to me on Monday. I was really confident that they were going to hire me...they really seemed to like me a lot. (who wouldn't...wink wink) Anyway, I was waiting all day Monday for their call and then finally around 4:30pm while I was on the phone with Tara I got their call saying that they wanted me to join their team! Of course I said "YES!"
The store is called Noble House Interiors. They are a home furnishings store (they sell everything from furniture to rugs to art to lamps etc.) and they also offer design services. They have four senior Designers and one Assistant Designer (ME). So, my duties include helping with displays on the showroom floor (which I helped with today), assisting designers and client projects, helping walk in customers, and making sure inventory pricing is consistent (they have had problems with that and want to implement a new system and want me to be the leader in that endeavor.)
So, I got the job yesterday and I started today. It was really great. Everyone there is really nice. It is a mom and pops store and the owners are so sweet and of course family oriented. And yes the pay is good plus bonus's! I'm so blessed to have gotten this job...see there was a reason why I didn't get other jobs I applied for or lacked motivation to call on others. All in all it is a great job and I'm so excited about it!

Snow

Snow already!!! I can't believe that there is already snow on top of the mountains here. It was raining most of the weekend and so up in the mountains they got snow! Some of the ski resorts got over 6 inches of snow. That is just insane. I'm ready for fall...but so not ready for WINTER...and especially SNOW. I don't enjoy the snow. Although it is beautiful it's not fun to live in/travel in.

I love you MOM!

Last night I baked my mom's No-Bake cookies for the first time all by myself....well actually Craig was my stirring assistant. I was nervous that they weren't going to be as good or I would mess them up but they turned out good. I was excited about it so I took a picture. I also missed my mom so I wrote a silly little poem for her. Here it is:

Mother dear you did so much.

You cooked, you cared, and did lots of stuff.

I love your laugh and the fun we have.

Times with you is never a drag.

The things you taught will be used always.

You got me through all the hard days.

Your tender heart fills the lives of many.

You filled mine up with all good memories.

I love you more than words can describe.

I can’t wait until the next time I’m at your side.

I love you Mommy!

Pest Control

As most of you know Craig and I are planning to start our own pest control company next summer. We are trying to figure out where to start it. Some factors to consider are 1-warm weather most of the year, 2-good housing market (stable), 3-people with money to spend on pest control, 4-longevity of the possible market area, 5-large population of people, 6-multiple cities around that we can grow to cover.

We want to figure this out soon to start looking for loans, places to live, etc. We are excited but it is a lot to do. Craig has started the business plan and I have started designing the logo. If we go to CALI we will probably call it Pacific Environmental Pest Control.

Here are some scrapbook pages that I did. I wanted to get a picture of Craig in his uniform but never did. opps! I am his lady bug! Also, I'm putting up a survey on this subject of where to go...Please join in and try not to be to bias (wanting us to live closer to you) :o)

Extra x2

On Saturday Sep. 15, 2007 Craig and I were extras in a commercial. It is for a non-profit organization called the Foundation for a Better Life.
Here is the story line of the commercial: A family goes to a piano concert and the little boy wonders off...he gets backstage and starts pounding out twinkle twinkle on a piano...the curtains open and it is the piano on stage...than the real pianist comes out kneels down behind him and starts playing an elaborate accompaniment along with him and tells the kid to keep going. The audience is initially shocked at this then start to enjoy it and everyone claps and is excited. Ends with a standing ovation...and the tag line reads "Encouragement, Pass it On!"
So we were in the audience. It was a long day...but hey, we made $82 each instead of sitting around the house and earning nothing.
Here are some pics from the set...we filmed it in a local theater...they aren't the best because it's from Craig's phone. It's fun to see the Behind the scenes stuff. Craig looks bored in the upper picture because we had been there all day.

Got TAGGED!

1.) What I was doing ten years ago: September 1997

I was in 7th Grade…probably the worst school year EVER! I had horrible teachers, got bad grades, and it was my first year as an “only child” (all my sisters out of the house). It was a sad time. I had just turned 12…which was fun…going into young womens. More bad stuff…I was really sick on my b’day could barely move. I had to blow out scented candles instead of candles on a cake. Well…depressing! I guess it wasn’t the best year for me.

2.) Five years ago: September 2002

I was a senior at Buena High School, just turned 17! I had a chill schedule…only 4 periods (instead of 6 so I got out at lunch time) Bianca and I were now friends, HOORAY! I was taking a Sign Language class at Ventura College and having fun times!

Slept in, went to church, and did a lot of HOMEWORK! Yucky!!! I also took a little break to post a couple things on the blog. I also made meatloaf for the first time…and I made up the recipe and it was delicious (well I looked at a bunch of different recipes and didn’t have all the ingredients for them or didn’t like it so I made up my own…it will be in the double delight cook book).

Falling Behind

So, I have tons of "posts" that I need to do but I have been caught up in birthday fun and school work so I have gotten a little behind. I promise that I will have more stuff soon. I just need to get a couple of projects done and then I will probably have like 5 posts in one day. Anyway...I did post my Spamalot story so there is at least one thing new but I got "tagged" by Lanae and I haven't done that yet etc. etc. Anyway...just a little FYI

Spamalot

As you know (if you read my earlier posts) Craig bought me tickets to go see Spamalot (the musical). It is playing here in town for a few weeks and I really wanted to see it because I heard it was HILARIOUS...and it is!!! It is Monty Pythons Spamalot so it is very similar to the movie Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail. It is just a silly play and the entire thing is spoofing other musicals such as Phantom of the Opera, Fiddler on the Roof, West Side Story, etc. It was just really really funny. Also while we were there we ran into April and Steve Nelson (from Ventura) so we talked to them for a while...it was good to see them. Also...we got our seats upgraded because they failed to ever mail us our tickets. It was nice. We were upgraded to the ground level towards the back but still better than where we would have been seated. It was a great B'day present. THANKS CRAIG!!!

My Birthday!!!

So yesterday was my 22nd B'day! The night before we had stayed up late (past midnight) doing homework and stuff...so after midnight Craig said, "Check your email" He sent me a funny E-Card of a guy rapping. Then he came out with a piece of paper that said that we were going to see Spamalot on Friday (it is a Broadway musical that is on a USA tour and is here in Salt Lake for a few weeks). I was super excited of course b/c I love musicals and I hear this is hilarious.

During the actually DAY of my b'day we both had school but after I got out of class Craig took me to Ruby River Steakhouse. It was delicious! Afterward, we came home and I was expecting a bunch of people to be there but we just came in and so I thought that that was it but we then went bowling Brent and Amy came with us (Brent is Craig bro who was visiting his girlfriend for a few days and staying with us). Then when we got to the bowling ally our friend Ben was there and his friend Alisha. What was really cool is that we were the only ones there! So I said jokingly, " you rented the entire bowling ally for my Birthday!?!" It was fun to have the whole place to ourselves. We even asked them to turn on the black lights (like cosmic bowling) and they did that for us so it was super fun!!!

When we got home after bowling Craig had bought me an Ice Cream cake from Baskin Robins. It was beautiful and super yummy! I had said a long time ago that I wanted and Ice Cream cake and he remembered. Good Job Craig!!! Anyway, It was a super fun b'day and I still get to go to Spamalot so it's not over yet!

Here is us at the restaurant.
Here are some fun pics of Craig...hoping that he gets a strike
Gettin' excited and doing a hand stand
Look at those skills.
Wow, Craig is Strong!!! We are just being silly. Wanted a fun picture of the two of us. Most of you know our famous "balls" bowling picture we didn't want to do that again but we made Brent and Amy do it... it's really cute but I didn't want to post it without their permission.
Here is Amy, Brent, Ben, the B'day Girl, and Craig at the Bowling ally!!!
Here is us attempting to play DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) We aren't very good but it was fun and hard work. We were sweating by the end.

Temple Cleaning

On Friday, Sep. 7th Craig and I went to the Salt Lake Temple at 9:15pm to help clean the temple. We were excited to see some of the ins and outs of the temple. We got to go into a basement room and saw some interesting things. There were some blueprints to the temple laying out on a table, old furniture, a chandelier, etc. It was cool to see. And it was fun walking through different paths in the temple to get to different places...it was kind of confusing. What we ended up doing was cleaning the crystal chandeliers in the Celestial Rooms. It was so interesting dusting these beautiful chandeliers and seeing that they are NOT that dusty so it was interesting to think that they clean them often. You don't really think about that kind of stuff until you do it. They literally clean the temple DAILY! There are some things like vacuuming that they do EVERY DAY and other things they rotate throughout the week. It was fun. I'm going to put Chandelier Cleaning Skills on my resume now! (wink wink)

Here is a photo from when Craig and I were dating at the SLC Temple at conference time Oct. 2005. (so you have a picture to look at)

Cat for a DAY

Tonight Sharon and Rob stopped by and spent the night (on there way down to Dallas). When they got here and we were helping them get their luggage out of the car there was the cutes little Kitty in our front yard. I was playing with her and petting her and she followed us up to our door. Craig said, "let her in" so we did. She was so cute (I wish I got a picture of her cute face but I couldn't get it). She had a fun time exploring our apartment...spelling everything.

She was crawling around exploring all sorts of places.
Craig got her some lunch meat to snack on in the house and then when we thought she should leave we put it on our porch.
When I tried to let her out she just sat down right outside the door and looked outside for a little while and then wanted back in. So, she came in and out a few times...but we didn't want to keep her too long because we didn't want any bathroom accidents.
Craig and I really enjoyed having her for a few hours. We both love cats and want one someday. We hope that she comes back to visit us.

Extra Extra

On Thursday, Sep. 6 I was an extra in a training video. My friend called me the night before and asked me if I wanted to be in a "commercial" (he was miss informed). So, I said yes...since I don't have a job yet and only have night classes. It was really fun. It was my first time being an extra in a movie. It was fun to see all the behind the scenes stuff. I want to do some more extra work. It's fun and you get paid. I'll I did in the movie was walk across the scene. It was still fun though. I really want to be an extra in High School Musical 3.

Stormy Weather

Last night around 6:30 pm a storm came BLOWING through down town Salt Lake. I was in class when in first started. It was zooming through the buildings (there are 3 buildings on campus)...it was so loud. It was screaming like a ban chi. When I was walking to my car the rain was blowing 1/2 way into the parking garage. As I was driving home (which isn't far at all) there were tons of large tree branches along the road and on the side of the road. It was an intense storm, thunder, lightning, high winds, rain, etc. When I got home from school at 7:15pm the power was out there. I guess he saw the nearby transformer blow up. SCARY!

Craig's friend Kiel was driving through town on his way back to school so he stopped by and we all went out to eat at the Olive Garden (since the power was out). We thought that the power would be back on when we got back but it wasn't. One of our neighbors told us that 52,000 people in Salt Lake were out of power. It was fixed some time during the night, while we were sleeping. Here is a little video that I took out our front door...doesn't really show the really intensity of the storm but still fun. (the talking is Craig directing Kiel into our apartment)

This morning the storm raged up a little again. It was raining heavily, with a little hail included, and CRAZY LOUD thunder! It was fun watching the storm from inside with the windows open and what not.

New Apartment

Ok all...here is our new apartment in Salt Lake. It's a 2 bedroom which is so nice! We are enjoying it. Here is our kitchen, looking from the front door. Like most apartments there is always something a little weird like our washer and dryer in the kitchen! Weird, but at least we don't have to go to the nasty laundry mat any more.

This is the other side of the kitchen with the sink oh and the washer!
Here is the living Room view from the front door again (you can choose when you walk it to go left into the LR or right inot the Kitchen). And there is my sweet boy taking a nap after a long day at school.
Oh and notice that he is laying on our new couches!!!!! Hooray! We own our own brand new couches!

Here is our little entertainment wall...notice the millions of CD/DVD's, our ghetto "bunny ears", our stereo (which we hooked up to our DVD player...close to surround sound), and of course our Wii!!!! Look who's on TV...OPRAH!
This is our office/catch all room. It is still not fully organized as you can see, but it works.

We also had to put our dresser in the office because it wouldn't really fit into the bedroom. Here is the bedroom..."Where the magic happens" (like they say on every episode of Cribs on MTV...silly famous people)
And finally every girls dream...his and hers closets (not very big but they work).

Labor Day Golf

On our day off from school Craig and I took the time to sleep in, get some things done around the house and then in the afternoon we went golfing up at the U of U golf course. (it is a smaller course, great for beginners). It was the perfect time to go...we went right at dusk so the weather had cooled down. We actually didn't get to finish all 9 holes because it was too dark by the time we got to the 8th hole, but we had a fun time and it was a beautiful view of the city at sunset. It was especially fun because we have our own clubs now, thanks to Craig's brother Rob!!! It was nice not having to rent clubs. Neither of us is very good at golf, but we enjoy going golfing and we are getting better. Our new phrase is "don't try to kill the ball...be it's friend" because we always try to hit the ball super hard "kill it" and we just need to learn to be it's friend and treat it right. :0)
